Ashley Furniture adds Verona plant to Mississippi operations

Ashley Furniture has been in the state for nearly 20 years and has plants in Ecru and Ripley. It will use its new Verona facility, which is situated on a 35-acre site in the Tupelo-Lee Industrial Park South and was formerly occupied by Morgan Fabrics, to manufacture sleepers and mattresses. The plant will also serve as a state-of-the-art replacement part and customer support center. This decision was the result of several years of global strategic and grass roots analysis, said Ashley President & CEO Todd Wanek. The Verona facility, he said, is in close proximity to Ashleys existing facilities in Ripley and Ecru, is serviced by a rail line and is located in a Foreign Trade Zone.

Ashley Furniture Outlet now open

Opening date for the new outlet is anticipated to be mid to late August, according to company officials. The store will be in the former FYE music store on West Main Street across from the Tops Supermarket. This will be the first free-standing clearance outlet of Ashley furniture for the company, which owns and operates the six Ashley Furniture HomeStores in the region as well as a distribution center on West Saile Drive in Batavias Gateway II Corporate Park. The new Ashley Furniture HomeStore Outlet will retail scratch-and-dent furniture currently warehoused in the Batavia distribution center; furniture collections discontinued by the manufacturer; special close-out buys from Ashley Industries and brand new furniture from collections at the retailers most popular price points. This is a tremendous opportunity for shoppers to get discounts of up to 70 percent off the retail price of items such as dining room tables, end tables, miscellaneous bedroom pieces and more, said Timothy Quinn, managing partner for Ashley Furniture HomeStores of western New York. Ashley Furniture operates retail showrooms in six locations including Buffalo, Rochester, Horseheads and Olean.

Ashley Furniture to open new Batavia store

“During this meeting, Martin made a number of derogatory remarks about homosexuals, stating that ‘lesbos and gays would be judged’ and that she follows the ‘word of bedroom furniture stores in houston TX Leviticus’ — which purportedly condemns homosexuality — and that ‘there are many who call themselves true Christians, but they don’t know what that means.” The complaint also reports that Perez was made aware that Martin directed “derogatory and discriminatory” comments, including “nigga,” “lesbo” and “fag,” toward a number of colleagues. Though Perez tried to keep her sexual orientation private, “it was well known among plaintiff’s co-workers that she was a lesbian and was married to a woman.” Perez was fired in 2012 after Martin allegedly spotted a Human Rights Campaign (HRC) bumper sticker on her car: “Martin then asked plaintiff whether it was for ‘the gays’ and then proceed to tell plaintiff that she was not sure that she made the right decision about hiring plaintiff because she did not fit the ‘culture’ at the company. She then explained that she was going to ‘speak to God’ about plaintiff’s continued employment with Ashley.” Back 2 Stonewall points out that Ashley Furniture has publicly supported groups like FamilyLife , whose mission is “is committed to helping people know and apply the biblical blueprints for maintaining a God-honoring marriage, and donated heavily to conservative political candidates. CLARIFICATION: Language has been added to this post to indicate that only the local franchise, rather than the national company, has been sued.
